A Handful Of Bible Verses For Holiday Season
The holiday season is fast approaching and with it comes lots of time spent with loved ones, friends and extended family members, some of whom we only see once or twice a year.
And, although typically considered to be a time of joy, love and generosity, holiday season can sometimes be fraught with unresolved family tension, the crossing of emotional and social boundaries, and unwanted questions or judgements around your life choices.
So, to help you navigate the complexities of the upcoming festivities, here are bible verses for holiday season.
Bible Verses For Holiday Season
Romans 15:13: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
This bible verse serves to remind us that belief in God will fill us with peace and joy, and that we must trust him and the path he has created for each of us; a comforting thought when navigating challenging conversations over the holiday period.
Psalm 23:4: “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me”.
During the festive season, you may feel like you’re walking through a dark valley; expected to socialise with individuals you feel don’t understand you, you don’t wish to spend time with, or reminded of loved ones lost. This verse serves to remind that, during dark times such as this, God will walk beside you, because when you walk with God, you are never alone.
Revelation 21:4: “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
This is a complete biblical promise from Jesus of ultimate comfort, restoration, and the complete elimination of all human suffering in the new heaven and new Earth. Why is this here? Because, during the holiday season, we celebrate Jesus’ sacrifice: he died so we shall live, and God loves us so much that he gave up his son for us. Life is a gift that should be cherished and celebrated, during both the most joyous and hardest of times.
Romans 10:9-13: “As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile – the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved”.”
Jesus loves all, and all who believe in him will be saved. Salvation is received through personal faith in Jesus Christ, open confession of His lordship, and calling upon Him. Jesus is available to everyone without distinction.
Ephesians 4:2: “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”
This reminds us to lead with kindness and to be humble and gentle with others, and is a fundamental bible passage to refer to when conversations get difficult around the dinner table; take a breath and try to be patient and understanding.
Final Thoughts For Navigating The Holidays
You may be dreading the upcoming holiday season, and that’s ok; whether it’s because you’ve recently lost someone close to you, you don’t want to feel questioned or judged during what is supposed to be a happy time, or you’re feeling stressed and anxious about hosting so many people in your home over a short period of time – whatever it may be and whatever is on your mind during the festivities – try to hold on to the small moments of joy that inevitably occur during this time, cast the bad aside, and remember: when God walks beside us we are never alone.
