Absolutely Nothing Can Break Your Connection With God
Once you have made a connection with God, there is absolutely nothing that can break that BUT … it all starts by making the connection in the first place. Have you got it and made it?
Making the Connection – ‘the penny dropping!’
Before the Apostle Paul (formerly known as Saul) made the connection, his life was a mess and he hated Christians. He had an encounter with Jesus Who asked why Saul was persecuting Him (Acts 9). It was only after this that he realised his total need for a new start and made the connection with the risen Jesus Christ that he wrote these words to explain what had happened.
‘Now God says He will accept and acquit us—declare us “not guilty”—if we trust Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved in this same way, by coming to Christ, no matter who we are or what we have been like.Yes, all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious ideal;yet now God declares us “not guilty” of offending him if we trust in Jesus Christ, who in His kindness freely takes away our sins’ – Romans 3:22-24 TLB
Here’s how this stands for every human being:
Our Personal Need
We have all have sinned and fallen short. That is everyone including you and me, 100% of us. No matter how hard we try to be nice and do good, by our own efforts and in our own strength we will never be free from sin’s curse and its hold on us.
God’s Provision
The old hymn ‘Amazing Grace’ is all about God’s gift of Jesus Who takes our punishment in our place so that we walk free. Once connected to Jesus, always connected to God. Once truly a forgiven child of God, always in His family as an accepted and beloved child.
Paul puts it with breathtaking clarity:
‘For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord’ – Romans 8:38–39
That is the security of grace. That is the strength of the Father’s grip.
1. Connection Leads To Abiding
Jesus describes the relationship like a vine and its branches:
“Remain in Me… apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:1–9)
Connection isn’t a one‑off moment; it’s a daily abiding. A leaning in. A staying close. And when you do, His life flows into yours—strength, peace, clarity, courage.
2. The Spirit Makes the Connection Real
Jesus told His disciples that His physical departure would actually deepen their connection:
“It is for your good that I am going away… the Advocate* will come to you.” (John 16:5–7)
*The Holy Spirit is not an optional extra. He is the One who makes the connection alive—the presence of God within you, not just around you.
3. The Father Holds You Fast
Jesus Himself says:
“No one will snatch them out of My hand… My Father is greater than all.” (John 10:28–30)
Your salvation is not held by your strength but by His. Your grip may weaken; His never does. Psalm 27:1 pictures this connection made with God as being a stronghold similar to that of a climber in trouble being rescued. This climber is held safely by one above who gives strength from a secure trustworthy footing.
4. Love That Keeps Growing
In His prayer, Jesus asks the Father to keep pouring love into His followers:
“…that the love You have for Me may be in them and I in them.” (John 17:26)
Connection with God is not static. It grows. It deepens. It becomes the anchor of your identity as an accepted child of God, giving you an ongoing purpose for a motivated and fulfilled life.
A Quote From ‘We Solve Murders’ by Richard Osman
‘…how on earth do you wash yourself clean afterwards? I now have a long time to ponder that question. Sin in haste, repent at leisure. I have no interest in beginning a correspondence with you, so I shall bid you farewell, and hope we both find some form of forgiveness’– fraudster Susan Knox to murderer Mickey Moody
Like Saul, we all need forgiveness. It’s meeting Jesus in humility and trusting Him that gives us this, truly cleansing us from every sin through His sacrificial death on the cross, His blood instead of ours.
A Thought to Carry Today
Corrie ten Boom once said:
“There is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper still.”
If nothing can separate you from His love, then nothing can prevent you from returning to it, resting in it, and living from it.
A Worship Song to Consider This
“He Will Hold Me Fast” – sung by Selah, written by Keith & Kristyn Getty – A beautiful reminder that the strength of your faith is not in your grip on God, but His grip on you.
